Your data

Your data belongs to you.

Dialect stores what it needs to run your conversations and deliver practice reports. Here is exactly what that is, and how to export or delete everything from Settings.

What Dialect stores

Four things, plainly stated.

Nothing extra. If Dialect does not need something to do its job, it does not store it.

Your account

Email address, display name, a hashed (not readable) password, and your current plan. Payment card numbers are held by our payment processor and are never stored by Dialect.

Conversation records

The date, language, level, and topic of each practice conversation. The record of what you practiced and when, without the content of the conversation itself.

Transcripts and practice reports

The full text of every conversation: your lines and the AI partner's lines, turn by turn. Used to generate your practice report and kept so you can review past sessions.

Voice recordings (off by default)

Dialect does not save your voice audio unless you turn it on. A toggle in Settings controls this. Your speech is processed only to run the conversation. If you opt in, recordings are stored encrypted alongside your transcripts.

Dialect also stores a signed session token to keep you signed in. Tokens are invalidated on sign-out and expire automatically. Billing and payment records are held by our payment processor, not by Dialect.

Export your data

Download a complete copy of everything Dialect holds about you at any time. The export is a single JSON file that includes your account details, every conversation record, all transcripts, all practice reports, and any recordings you have saved. No special software needed to open or read it.

Find it in Settings / Your data / Export inside the app.

Go to Settings

Delete conversations or your account

Delete individual conversations from your history without touching anything else. Or delete your entire account and all associated data. Account deletion removes everything within 30 days as deletion propagates through backups. We retain billing records as required by law, but not your practice data.

Delete a conversation in Settings / History. Delete your account in Settings / Your data / Delete account.

Access

Who can see your data.

Your data is visible to you. Parts of Dialect's software read it when needed, for example to generate your practice report. Dialect staff can access account data only when needed to support you, under strict internal access controls.

Two external providers process data on Dialect's behalf: OpenAI for the language model and ElevenLabs for voice synthesis. Both operate under data processing agreements that prohibit using your data to train public models. Read the full detail on the Security page.

What we never do

Your data is never sold.

Dialect does not sell your personal information or your practice data to any third party. No data broker, advertiser, or analytics vendor receives your transcripts, recordings, or account information.

Voice recordings are off by default. Your speech is processed only to run the conversation and is not stored unless you opt in. Go to Settings to check or change your recording preference at any time.
